Meet Dr. Siva Vasudavan, our distinguished Chief Orthodontist, with a qualification as a Specialist Orthodontist. His office is a testament to a decade of advanced clinical training at globally recognized institutions. Raised in Perth and an alumnus of Willetton and Rossmoyne Senior High Schools, Dr. Siva’s journey began at the UWA School of Dentistry. He further honed his skills as a full-time Registrar in Paediatric Dentistry at Princess Margaret Hospital, working alongside Dr. John Winters. Here, he was engaged in the Postgraduate Diploma of Child Health and Advanced Paediatric Life Support Programs.

With a thirst for knowledge and mastery, Dr. Siva was accepted into the esteemed Specialist Orthodontic Training Program at the University of Sydney under the tutelage of the globally revered Professor M. Ali Darendeliler. He successfully completed his clinical training at the Sydney Dental Hospital and Westmead Hospital. After a rigorous three-year, full-time specialist training program, he earned his Master of Dental Science (Orthodontics) degree in 2006 from the University of Sydney, an institution globally recognized as a beacon of orthodontic excellence.

Continuing his journey, Dr. Siva had the honor of being chosen as the inaugural fellow for the Craniofacial and Cleft Lip and Palate Orthodontics program at Harvard University and Boston Children’s Hospital, Massachusetts, USA. It was here that he gained invaluable knowledge and skills from leading experts in Craniofacial and Cleft Lip/Palate care. After a two-year clinical fellowship, he carried out several research investigations and also achieved a Master of Public Health Degree from Harvard University in 2009.

Dr. Siva remains a strong advocate for academic pursuits in orthodontic education and research. Having served as a Faculty Member and Visiting Lecturer at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Boston Children’s Hospital Department of Dentistry, he now holds an academic appointment as a Senior Research Fellow at UWA, where he collaborates with Professor Marc Tennant’s group and mentors Masters and Doctoral students.

His impressive academic achievements include over 30 published articles in leading peer-reviewed journals, co-authorship of three textbook chapters, and co-authorship of the textbook “Exercises in Orthodontic Biomechanics.” Dr. Siva’s research interests span mini-implant-supported mechanics, orthodontic biomechanics, orthognathic surgery, CAD-CAM digital planning, digital smile design, pediatric oral infections, and neonatal medicine.

As a member of multiple prestigious organizations such as the Australian Society of Orthodontists, American Association of Orthodontists, Edward H. Angle Society, and more, Dr. Siva’s expertise is globally recognized. He is also a Fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists, and has a specialist diploma and Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Additionally, he is the immediate Past-Chairman of the WA Regional Committee of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.

Beyond his academic and professional accolades, Dr. Siva is regularly sought after as a lecturer at both national and international gatherings. His advanced training in orthodontic biomechanics from renowned Professors Birte Melsen and Giorgio Fiorelli in Europe has made him a sought-after speaker at prominent orthodontic symposiums and conferences around the world.

But there’s more to Dr. Siva than his impressive professional achievements. As a father to three young children, he knows the importance of patience and the art of putting even his smallest patients at ease. An ardent athlete, he enjoys competitive basketball, mixed martial arts, and snowboarding. The majority of his leisure time now revolves around his wife and children, their sporting pursuits, and being an integral part of their school and local communities. An avid runner, he has completed the Chicago, Boston, and Berlin Marathons.
